Sustainability of Cloud
In 2019, Fundaments worked intensively to comply with ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. This standard describes how an organisation can control process-based risks, in terms of the environment, and prevent them where possible. It helps Fundaments to make its Cloud more sustainable and reduce its carbon footprint, thereby reducing its impact on the environment.
BSI Group
During the last two months of 2019, Fundaments was audited by BSI Group. This is an independent organisation that assessed Fundaments on the ISO 14001 standard. Colin Keizers, Security Officer and also Environmental Officer at Fundaments supervised the process: ‘First of all, we are of course very proud that we now comply with the ISO 14001 certification! This certification helps us to optimise our Cloud environments and our office. For example, we specifically choose ISO 14001 or equivalent certified data centres, encourage the use of (electric) bicycles among our staff and make it possible to charge electric cars using charging stations in the parking lot. We also impose stricter environmental requirements on our suppliers and proactively take environmentally friendly measures. For instance, we have mapped out which maintenance regimes apply to all equipment in our office, such as air conditioners and electric charging stations, and in collaboration with BSI, we have defined more rigorous environmental requirements for our suppliers.’
Working in an environment-friendly way
The organisation is set up in such a way that staff work in the most environment-friendly way possible. Measures have been taken not only to ensure sustainable, eco-friendly equipment using the latest techniques and methods to save energy, among other things, but also to make Fundaments' premises more sustainable. The entire roof of the listed office building has been renewed and the walls and windows have been re-insulated. The ISO 14001 certification obliges Fundaments to continuously improve and invest in sustainable, environment-friendly equipment and data centres.
To summarise, Fundaments is very pleased with the achieved results and the new ISO 14001 certification.
